This Thirty One Day Prayer to Support Ministers and Spiritual Leaders can be used by individuals in private prayer to support, empower and equip our spiritual leaders.   It can be shared daily on a prayer chain.

There are blanks in this prayer for you to personalize it with the name of the person for whom you are praying.

This prayer is filled with Scriptures to pray and is particularly useful when a minister moves to a new church or into a new area of ministry.   

Thirty One Day Prayer to Support Ministers and Spiritual Leaders

 First Day

Help ____to develop & delegate capable leaders and not do it all themselves.   

Help _____to select capable individuals from among the people at church—people who fear God, trustworthy people who hate dishonest gain—and appoint them to leadership positions. —Exodus 18:21

Second Day

Establish ______’s feet to always follow the Lord’s leading

Instruct ______and teach them in the way they should go;

Counsel them with Your loving eye on them. —Psalm 32:8

Third Day

We ask that ___________always seeks to delight in you, Lord

Help _____to trust in the Lord and do good;

dwell in this area and enjoy an ever-deepening relationship and love with their spouse.

Let them be delighted daily in You and give them the desires of their heart. —Psalm 37:3–4

Fourth Day

Help _____to find his stability in the stillness of You, our Refuge

Give them time daily to be still and quiet before You

And let them always wait patiently for You;

Do not let them become full of worry or anxiety when people succeed in their dishonest ways,

when they carry out their wicked schemes. —Psalm 37:7

Fifth Day

We ask that _____understand that true leadership is contentment

Let them not be corrupted by the power of their position– let them see that it is better that someone has little but is righteous rather than someone who is wealthy and has wickedness in their life;

Let them see the power of the wicked be broken, but uphold the righteous before his eyes. —Psalm 37:16–17

Sixth Day

Would ______speak from the overflow of their heart…

Let ____’s mouth utter wisdom, and their tongue speak what is just.  Put Your law in their heart;

And do not allow their feet to slip. —Psalm 37:30–31

Seventh Day

May _____’s integrity come from within

Help them to be like David who shepherded his people with integrity of heart;

And give them skillful hands to lead us. —Psalm 78:72

Eighth Day

O God, help them to set up guards so they will be protected

Above all else, guard their heart. Remind them that everything they do flows from it. —Proverbs 4:23

 Ninth Day

And help _____to listen to and bond with their advisors

Guide them and let them never think so highly of themselves that they think they have all the answers,

And let them choose wise advisors and give them many victories with them by his side. —Proverbs 11:14. Give them a trustworthy friend, a confidant, like Aaron was to Moses, Johnathan was to David, the beloved disciple, John was to Jesus, Barnabas/Timothy/Luke was to Paul. But never let anyone replace their beloved helpmate and spouse, chosen by You.

Tenth Day

May ______’s leadership be rooted in righteousness

May they always detest wrongdoing.  Establish their ministry here through righteousness. —Proverbs 16:12

Eleventh Day

Let _____’s life be an example but do not let them lean upon themselves for this…only You.

“Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.”—Hebrews 13:7

Never let them forget that others are watching their life and will be imitating them as well as their faith. Give them him Red Sea faith… Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego faith, the faith of a child…mustard seed faith…the shield of faith…and the faith of Abraham.

Twelfth Day

Thank you that ____is a leader made for troubled times

When they are thinking that they are going to falter and fall, remind them Who is their Strength and show up in a way that will increase their faith! —Proverbs 24:10

Thirteenth Day

May _____see and pay special attention to the resources You put before them. 

May they always know the condition of their flock, and give careful attention to their herds;

Remind them that riches do not endure forever, and leadership is not secure for all generations. —Proverbs 27:23–24

Fourteenth Day

We ask that_____ sees themselves through the eyes of their flock

May the congregation always rejoice when they walk in the room…may they thrive under ____’s leadership-

Keep the wicked away from them and give ____the discernment on how to handle both the wicked and the righteous. —Proverbs 29:2

Fifteenth Day

Help ______establish justice and stability

Help _____to administer justice so they are stable as a church.  Keep those who are greedy or want to tear that church down away. Give _____the discernment to know who these people are and how to respond. —Proverbs 29:4

Sixteenth Day

May ______ put their trust in You and in You alone

When _____is afraid, remind them that You are with them.   ___is not to be dismayed, for You are their God.

You will strengthen them and help them; Hold them up with Your righteous right hand. —Isaiah 41:10

 Seventeenth Day

May _____recognize their limitations

Let ____never think too highly of themself but remember that You alone are God. Your thoughts are not our   thoughts, neither are Your ways our ways, declares the Lord.  As the heavens are higher than the earth,

so are My ways higher than our ways and Your thoughts than _____’s thoughts. —Isaiah 55:8–9

Eighteenth Day

Help_____ to know that You have established their leadership over their congregation

Remind ____ that You knew them in their mother’s womb and that You set them apart before they were born to lead that congregation. —Jeremiah 1:5

Nineteenth Day

Grant ______an ongoing and intimate relationship with You

Let _____ learn that they can call to You and You will tell them great and unsearchable things that they do not know. —Jeremiah 33:3 Give them time with their family as well, seeing the fleeting time.

Twentieth Day

Let ____’s relationship with others consist of justice, mercy, and humility

So, in everything, we ask that _____would treat others as they would want them to treat themselves. Let their family know that they are always his first loves.   Give him time in your Word so he would understand that this concept sums up the Law and the Prophets. —Matthew 7:12

Twenty-first Day

Give_____ Your Spirit and let it guide them all the days of his life

We ask that _____ would be different – that they would be Jesus to their congregants and the people that they meet.  That when they are thought of, people would think of a servant first and that ____ would be a great leader in their eyes. Make _____a Moses, a David, a Paul. But most of all, continue to transform them into You, Jesus. And may we continue to pray and encourage him all the days of our lives. —Matthew 20:26

Twenty-second Day

Help ____to be wise, always expecting the Master’s return

Let ______ be that faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time. It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. Let _____be this man. —Matthew 24:45–47

Twenty-third Day

Remind ________that leadership is all about service – help the congregation to be easy to lead

Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Let these Words be close to _________’s heart as they lead, and may each person be a joy to them as they lead. —Mark 10:42–45

Twenty-fourth Day

Let ______see a miracle when they least expect it and need it most

Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” Make the impossible a regular occurrence in the life of _______and this congregation. —Luke 18:27

Twenty-fifth Day

Let _______always turn to You first for wisdom

When _____lacks wisdom, let them ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. —James 1:5

Twenty-sixth Day

When things get tough, let ________have confidence in the future.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of ______, because they have been called according to Your purpose and they love You. —Romans 8:28.

Twenty-seventh Day

Give_____ stamina

Let _______not become weary of doing good, for at the proper time they will reap a harvest if they don’t give up. —Galatians 6:9

Twenty-eighth Day

Maturing ______in You, our King

So, Christ Himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists.  You made ______ a spiritual leader so use them to equip your people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until they all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. —Ephesians 4:11–13

Twenty-ninth Day

Make _______content in every situation – and make their family members content in every situation.

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. Remind _____ of the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want – that they can do all this through Him who gives _____strength. —Philippians 4:12–13

 Thirtieth Day

Let _____’s reputation be built upon the Word of God

Keep ______above reproach, faithful to their spouse and family, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. Help them to manage their own family well, and to do so in a manner worthy of full respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?)  Keep _____from conceit in their spiritual accomplishments, so they won’t fall under the same judgment as the devil. Help ____to have a good reputation with outsiders, so that they will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap. —1 Timothy 3:2–7

Thirty-first Day

Let ______ see their rewards and victories!

Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. —Let this be said of _____consistently. Revelation 21:7 “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”—James 1:12

And may each of their family members, and everyone who hears the Gospel message from ____’s mouth, until Christ comes again, the staff at his church, and every congregant, be standing beside ______when they cast that crown of life before You in loving gratitude, our Jesus…

 The authors wrote this prayer to support a new minister at their church.  It came across my desk when a member of our church prayer committee forwarded it to those of us who wanted to support a member of our church staff who had answered a call to ministry and was about to leave for his first church assignment.
