This prayer poem expresses the ongoing prayer of a father’s desire for reconciliation and a second chance after his wife has left him.  At the heart of this prayer is the profoundly universal advice given by his eight year old son, “Dad, don’t give up let’s pray.  Do a little and let God do the rest.”

  ” Me and God”

Here I am God ! Alone!
She left me and the home!
You know I love her, just didn’t have my priorities straight to show her!
My youngest is eight.  He said “Dad don’t give up let’s pray,  Do a little and let God do the rest.  Dad will you play?”

Me and God sitting on the porch
Me and God will you give me a torch ? To show me the way! I pray!
I fight! Will she come back today?
Night rolls around and I cry again.
The morning comes, my alarm sounds it’s a new day! I go to work feeling the emptiness. I wonder will it ever be full?  The nest. My heart is broken.  I’m going insane, through this, God what is your gain?

Me and God sitting on the porch!
Me and God will you give me a torch?
To show me the way! I will pray.
I fight! Will she come back today?
The night rolls around and I cry again.
The morning comes, my alarm sounds it’s a new day ! God give me hope, so I dream ! As I pray. God is with me I believe! It’s a wonder ? God relieve me from my pain! What is your gain?? Thank you God for the glory to make it today!

God and me sitting on the porch.
God has given me a torch, the way is lit for his will be done. I won’t quit!
Amen.
