Devoted to Israel by Murray Tilles

Prayer Category
Intercession for Israel and the Jewish People

In Devoted to Israel Murray Tilles gives us a devotional guidebook with short thoughts, scriptures and prayers to aid us in praying for Israel and for the coming to faith in Jesus, the Messiah, by the Jewish people. Murray Tilles grew up in a religious Jewish home and his life changed direction in college when he believed in Jesus as Messiah. Tilles directs a ministry called Light of Messiah Ministries that engages in outreach to the Jewish community and in education in the Christian community about the Jewish roots of our faith. The book contains 70 devotionals which are meant to be read thoughtfully and prayerfully on an ongoing individual basis rather than being read through quickly one after another like a narrative. Each devotional is very readable at two pages. Each begins with a printed Scripture, a short thought and a prayer. The book is further enhanced by black and white photo illustration related to the topic of the devotional. The back cover of the book says, “Devoted to Israel will enable you not only to better understand the land of Israel, the Jewish people, and our Jewish roots, but also to fulfill God’s command to ‘Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.'” (Psalm 122:6)

Review: I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has always wanted to pray for Israel or is praying to connect their Jewish friends to their Messiah Jesus. I had always wanted to pray for God’s Chosen People and His Chosen City, but I have never been able to pray this in a consistent meaningful way. Then I heard Murray Tilles speak and was so excited to get this book. I am using it in my morning devotional time to learn how to join my heart with God’s to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” as it says in Psalm 122:6. The fabulous thing about this book is that you can meditate on and pray a different scripture each day for more than 2 months, read a short meditation and then say a short prayer for some aspect of this subject dear to God’s heart. Another feature I have found very helpful is the small black and white photos that begin each devotional that depict different places in Israel or different symbols of faith that help this prayer endeavor feel more tangible and real. Tilles is helping me think of many different aspects for which to pray and when I finish I will feel satisfied that I have covered this prayer territory well and gained a new love for God’s plan that He has unfolded and is unfolding through His Chosen people.  Karen Barber
