Chatlos Memorial Chapel, The Cove
The Cove Billy Graham Training Center
Blacksburg. N C
Type of Prayer Place
Chapel, prayer chapel
The Chatlos Memorial Chapel is a place where beautiful views of the surrounding mountain forest blend with glowing wood floors and soaring architecture. The chapel itself is breath taking, but the destination for those interested in prayer is the prayer room which is located up a stairway at the rear of the church. Our guide told us that when Ruth Graham saw the architectural rendings of the chapel she asked, “Where’s the prayer room? Who has heard about having a chapel without a prayer room?” The architects went to work and raised the elevation of the steeple to fit in the prayer room. The main feature of the prayer room is an unusual center altar area where kneeling pads are placed in a circular manner around a round table. There is a globe in the center of the table which helps focus on praying for the Kingdom of God to continue to spread globally.
In large beautiful calligraphy on the white walls two powerful verses on prayer are written: Phillipians 4:6-7 and Ephesians 3:20-21
How I used this place of prayer
We were the only ones in the prayer chapel and we knelt at the circular altar and enjoyed a moment of peace, presence and prayer. After we tired of kneeling we sat on the benches along the wall for a few more moments.
Hours of Operation & Admission Requirements

We visited in December when activities were at a lull. We were the only visitors on our tour and the tour guide allowed my sister Susan to play the grand piano in the empty sanctuary. It was a magical moment.
There is very little parking at the chapel itself. You may be asked to take a shuttle. Also, the terrain is very steep.
