capture-pawleys-island-2Description
This old fashioned wooden chapel sits on stilts over the marsh on Pawleys Island, S.C. It was originally a Pentecostal Holiness church in Georgetown, SC on the mainland, but was disassembled and then rebuilt on Pawleys in 1946. It is the only house of worship on the beach island and worship services led by various visiting ministers are held Sundays at 10 during the summer.

How I used this place of prayer
My husband’s uncle had a beach house across the street from this chapel and it was a feature of their summer vacations on the island. Back then there was no air conditioning and the congregants used hand held fans to ward off the summer heat. Today the church has been updated with air conditioning and heat. Although the church is not open for visitors during the week, there is a narrow porch on the front of the building with benches where you can stop and mediate during your time on the beach. Sunset is the perfect time to meditate here as the sun sets over the marsh.

Hours of Operation & Admission Requirements
Sunday services during the summer at 10 AM

The church can be rented for weddings and other events by contacting Pawleys Island Realty who manages the scheduling for the chapel. There is a small area where you can park a car by the side of the marsh near the chapel if you are not within walking distance.
