When I was a girl my parents would come into my bedroom and I would say this bedtime prayer.  I have included the traditional version and another version that replaces the “If I die before I wake” to keep from having sensitive children worry about dying in their sleep.

Traditional version of “Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep.”

Now I lay me down to sleep

I pray the Lord my soul to keep

If  I die before I wake

I pray the Lord my soul to take.

Amen.

Version 2:

Now I lay me down to sleep

I pray the Lord my soul to keep

May angels watch me through the night

And keep me in their blessed sight.

Amen.
